So many US Communist orgs are Trotskyist because the Marxist-Leninist ones got COINTELPRO'd

The "Socialist Worker's Party" is explicitly Zionist. Imagine if a "socialist" party supported South African apartheid and talked about the dangers to white farmers. They arose out of a split between American Trotskyists, like imagine being too Trot for other Trots. So it's all very in character.

I think the reason Trotskyism is so popular in the west is cold war propaganda. Even leftists have totally internalized "Lenin bad, Stalin evil" so Trotsky has an allure: he was the "good" one. And westerners tend to fetishize failed revolutions and revolutionaries over actually successful ones.
