I think it comes down to execution and personal taste.
Maybe you can think of some games with post-games you do enjoy, and compare? I think Mario bonus/star worlds aren't so different for example. Maybe you can figure out what about the execution erks you.

It's weird but it can be effective.
Done well it can adjust players' expectations for things that come post-credits. E.g. "You just had a polished linear story. That's over, the rest is different". Maybe you want more content to explore the game mechanics, but you don't want to bloat the story.

Wish I had a screenshot handy, but I think the old Splinter Cell games rigged Sam's middle and ring fingers as one.
