Sorta related, a director of a spatial RNASeq core told me that - for her - each slide costs $7,000 USD. She's got all the equipment and expertise. That's the reagents. Yikes.

As an apps scientist I could come in Monday and say “check out this magic” and fly home Friday. Found out later people had their Orbis out on benchtop being cleaned.

I feel like the instruments I screwed up with DMSO were before there was mass spec grade available. I still avoid it because some people were bigtime mad.

Caves of Steel and Robots of Dawn might translate well some day? Not sure it’ll ever happen because they seem less amazing because so much of the SciFi he wrote about is real tech now.
