Highly recommended boxing.
I really try to keep an even keel, and self-regulate because it’s the only way to be in this for the long haul, but sometimes the fury overtakes you for a bit.

A Minnesota woman observing ICE agents in her car was cornered on one-way streets. An agent approached, called her by name—citing facial recognition. Days later, her Global Entry and TSA privileges were revoked, with no explanation.

Journalism is not a crime. Protect the press.
Georgia Fort, an independent journalist and vice president of the Minnesota NABJ chapter, was also arrested by federal agents this morning

I was sent this video of agents at her door:

Challenging to ID while incapacitated… but great for before if you can get a glimpse before it’s tossed, or after once you can see and breathe again.
Here's how to identify some crowd control munitions, canisters of which federal agents have left on the ground after deploying them against people in Minnesota. bit.ly/3YWp1jE

Leah Millis’ perspective from Jan 6, including some details about what kind of threats/violence media faced that day.
I intended on posting about Jan 6 earlier, but I spent the day covering pardoned January 6 defendants, Proud Boys, supporters, family and friends of Ashli Babbitt as they gathered at the Ellipse and marched to the U.S. Capitol to mark the 5 year anniversary of January 6, 2021. So here's the thread:

As we enter into the new year, we are thinking a lot about what “protect the press” means. The obvious is PPE, training, education, safety advisors. Not so obvious: uplifting each other online. Sharing stories about our amazing colleagues while they are still alive. Not tearing each other down.

No journalist should have to be taken away from an assignment on a gurney. This is the second such recent incident we’ve seen wherein the photographer has been covering immigration enforcement actions & is injured & taken away by EMS. Wishing @keremyucel.bsky.social a full and swift recovery.
Infuriating to see reporters attacked. Here's @mpr.org photojournalist Kerem Yücel on a gurney in an ambulance. Caption: came "in contact with tear gas" and was hit with a projectile.

Translation: cops/agents sprayed @keremyucel.bsky.social with OC and shot him with a less lethal. 📸:Leila Navidi

I’m hearing, unconfirmed, City Council unanimously ordered City Attorney to withdraw motion anyway. Thank you! Much needed oversight!

If there is even a one percent chance that you will want to or be asked to cover a protest/civil unrest, you need to take stock of your PPE now.
...
We will post more about IFAKs, etc. soon.

Incredible photo from @chicago.suntimes.com ‘s Anthony Vazquez. Pointing what looks to be a teargas launcher at someone’s head at nearly point blank range is incredibly dangerous. This is why I prefer a ballistic helmet in the field.
