Speaking with our own Robyn Sordelett, Chesa Boudin breaks down how “selection bias” and the availability heuristic influence public opinion, often elevating the loudest or most sensationalized stories while sidelining others. Listening to survivors means making space for complexity, not shortcuts.

Prop 36 isn’t working.

Forced treatment without funding or services is just pushing more people into jail instead of care. L.A. County alone is projected to spend nearly $80M this year jailing people on Prop 36 charges—money that could house thousands or provide life-saving treatment.

Healing after harm is hard enough. Survivors shouldn’t have to struggle to access support.

Crime survivors spoke with Commonwealth’s Attorneys Steve Descano, Ramin Fatehi, and Parisa Dehghani-Tafti about their experiences with the legal system and how prosecutors' offices can better serve victims.

When investigators uncovered hazardous pesticides tossed into regular dumpsters across California, District Attorney Diana Becton's office stepped up by joining an effort to ensure the law was upheld.

The result: a $3.15M settlement, mandatory reforms, and stronger safeguards for the public.

When survivors speak, the system has a responsibility to stop talking and start listening.

During our survivor listening sessions, survivors sat with prosecutors and advocates for a rare, honest conversation about what safety actually feels like and how often our system fails to provide it.

Gratitude looks a little different for us.

It looks like victims of crime being centered in conversations that have historically ignored them.
It looks like prosecutors willing to hear uncomfortable truths.
It looks like advocates and partners pushing for better.

We’re deeply grateful.

A new California study is flipping that script by surveying survivors who have participated in parole hearings for someone who harmed them or their loved one. The study asks what support they needed, what they didn’t get, and what could prevent future harm.

What if justice and healing aren’t separate but two sides of the same coin?

Led by our Survivor Center Director, Robyn Sordelett, this training will dig into trauma-informed strategies for engaging survivors while honoring each survivor’s own definition of healing.

We brought survivors and prosecutors together to learn how the criminal legal system can do better in supporting the needs and healing of victims of crime.

Survivors are too often spoken for. This discussion flipped the script. Survivors led the conversation. Prosecutors showed up to listen.

DA Sherry Boston reminds us that being victim-centered doesn’t always look the same. Sometimes it means stepping back from prosecution and sometimes it means moving forward even when it’s hard.

True justice meets people where they are, not where the system expects them to be.

When we center survivors, we transform justice.
True reform means humanizing everyone involved, both survivors and those who’ve caused harm. Because healing, repair, and accountability are only possible when we move beyond “us vs. them.”

Preventing police violence begins with listening to those who have lived through its devastating impact.

In 2020, Sean Monterrosa was shot and killed by police while unarmed. His sisters, Michelle & Ashley, have since turned their grief into action by calling for accountability and reform.

Survivors are asking for something different: healing, not just punishment.
Arlington County CA Parisa Dehghani-Tafti explains how her office is leading with restorative justice, even in serious cases like hate crimes and homicides.

Participating in Arnold Ventures' BRIDGE Day, our own Cristine DeBerry spoke about the Make It Right program, a restorative justice approach for young people that has led to significantly lower recidivism rates compared to traditional prosecution.

Approaches like this make our communities safer.

October is #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth, but the reality of intimate partner violence extends far beyond these 31 days.

As headlines and soundbites fill the news cycle, let's stay focused on what really matters: the lived experiences of survivors in all our communities.

We’re stepping inside prison walls to listen, learn, and build a justice system rooted in accountability and healing. Our visits create space for real dialogue between prosecutors, victim advocates, and incarcerated people.

Thanks to the San Quentin News for inviting us in and covering our visit.
