4. The impulse to consume sugar lies at a basic instinctive level of our brains, and can be manipulated to drive us to unhealthy excesses of consumption. Billions are spent by the industry to perfect those manipulations, putting profit over public health. Same with AI.

3. Driven by a well-funded and politically influential industry, sugar pervades our food ecosystem, found in places it is neither needed nor expected. AI is already on this path in our tech ecosystem.

1. As already noted, both produced by unethical human exploitation.

2. Sugar has major negative impacts on human health, impacts the industry actively sought to downplay, deflect, or even hide. AI promises the same.

I noted that discourse that only focuses on individual student impact while ignoring larger social issues is like a conversation about sugar in the 19th century that talks about tooth decay and not slavery.

Hmmm… teenaged protagonist is generally a deal-breaker for me these days. How much does the author seem to know about the Greco-Roman world based on the setting? I don’t mind fantasy versions of historical settings, but the author needs to get the values right. Happy to give it a try, though!
