Hey! As of early Jan., ICE owns the facility outright. Washington County has signaled that they will not intervene to hold up permitting or other work.

We wrote about one resident who is filing to become a consulted party due to alleged issues with how the sale and comment process occurred.

If you have data on these two, send it my way! Happy to include on the list.

Our colleagues went to Williamsport this week to talk to neighbors at the Maryland warehouse. They're on well systems, and are very much concerned about leaching from the sewage systems into their groundwater. Without a forum for public comment, they couldn't address their worries.

Absolutely -- I can add to the to-do list :)

The whole property log is riddled with coincidences, separate from Harlan Crow. The former Vice Chair and CEO of CBRE (formerly J&J Worldwide), left the company in August of last year to form SK2 LLC, which was contracted by ICE to do design and due diligence work for these warehouses.

Most industrial warehouses, like the ones ICE are buying, are built with only one or two bathrooms, showers, and drinking fountains — enough for office staff. ICE would need to massively retrofit these sites to comply with their own National Detention Standards, at the cost of millions.

And if you can find out who owns the property, call them out both directly and publicly.

The Ashland, VA deal was canceled because someone went to the Canadian press and the owner (a Canadian company) had people coming at them from two countries.

The thing that is working nationwide is to show up at city or county council meetings and use public comment time to be heard. CALL your electeds, give them your name and zip code, and tell them how you feel about these warehouses.

Be sure to click the link on the warehouse map to check out our contract tool! It does the same thing for DHS contracts and purchases.

Good call — that wasn’t on the property shortlist WaPo leaked in December. I have some ideas on how to include existing detention sites. Updates to follow….

Hey there — beds data comes from a leaked document that Washington Post reported in December.

I actually have the data broken out by street/city/state but concatenated it so people on mobile could somewhat read the data. I’ll balance it out tomorrow.

Virginia, Oklahoma, and several others united and shut down similar sales in their states. Proud of y’all.

Not yet. We’re watching the federal clearinghouse data like a hawk. Especially watching firms like SK2 LLC who have previously been attached to design and due diligence contracts for these processing centers.

Will also update with info when fit-out contracts start showing up.

Sadly, yes. The map is up to date with the new sale information and potential property tax loss for the local community.

Hey B!

We actually broke that news, and then dug deep into the background of the deal here: open.substack.com/pub/projects...
