A first cousin of mine is handling my great-grandfather's letters with a plan to do something with them. They're scanned, but I don't believe they have ever been shared publicly.

You've impressed me as to why it might matter to others. I'll need to ask. Well played, my new friend.

FWIW, my GGF was a publisher in Abilene, KS (CM Harger) and had a longstanding relationship with Eisenhower (cuz... Abilene, KS). Ike's presidential library returned personal letters to the family as a matter of policy.

Could it be in a relative's collection?

I thought I might try to be helpful with a google lens search and… 🤭 I turned up another post of yours in a linked in comment.

Well, it may well turn up… just don’t know when. Good luck.

And YOU were the one, from NEW ZEALAND, to inspire the series. Thank you! I love the international angle in all of this.

Jane’s episode referenced one article and a 9-part series!

Ah! It must have been you. Yes, the simplicity of it is hard to beat. Behind it all though, he has a delightful clarity of vision.

Aw, thank you. I've found it fascinating. We tend to forget that the greatest value of commemorations is how we use them to educate ourselves and learn from history.

And yes, a civil war that birthed a new country founded on an idea affected the globe. All story contributions are welcome!
