The Camp David Accords signalled the beginning of US military aid to Anwar Sadat’s government. Initially, at least  $1.2 billion worth of arms flowed to Cairo every year, and Egypt remains among the largest recipients of US military aid to this day.

In September 1978, Israel and Egypt normalised relations by signing the Camp David Accords – the negotiation of which had excluded any Palestinian involvement. Normalisation had long been an explicit goal of the United States.

With the military aid of the United States, Israeli forces pushed the Syrians back across the 1967 ceasefire line on 10 October. By the end of the following week, the Israeli air force had destroyed the Egyptian air defence. Suffering heavy casualties, the Egyptians began to be outnumbered.

During the Naksa of 1967, Zionist forces occupied the entirety of historic Palestine in just six days. 300,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homes, including 130,000 who were displaced in 1948.
