Grateful to the kind woman who pulled me aside after I got off the ice to tell me how beautiful it was just to watch me stroke around the rink. She could not have known how much those words meant to me on that day. It'll be awhile before I'm back to my old tricks on the ice, but I'll get there.

Grateful to the kind woman who pulled me aside after I got off the ice to tell me how beautiful it was just to watch me stroke around the rink. She could not have known how much those words meant to me on that day. It'll be awhile before I'm back to my old tricks on the ice, but I'll get there.
My wrist is still not completely back to normal, and I live with pain every day. But thankfully you don't need a completely functional wrist to skate. And after a year in which I have felt that much has been taken from me, it was pretty amazing to take something back.

Skating was my life for many, many years, and even after I stopped competing, I would carve out time to go and just mess around. Through college, my doctorate, law school, work, starting this job - skating was my happy place. To lose that for so long, and in such a violent way, was devastating.
