2/2 Educators know the difference between direct and indirect assessment. We have the data on salaries of college graduates. Would be enlightening to see that presented alongside opinion data on whether the avg individual "feels like" college is preparing students for well-paying jobs.

4/ Some schools in this part of the country are struggling to fill even tenure-track positions for all of these reasons. It guts me that this happened to her.

3/ Why did she not have a salary sufficient to support herself? This is what's killing public higher ed in this part of the country. Spend years getting the degree, just to deal with this hustle--plus the soul-grinding politics of the moment...

2/ One gets the sense that salary, schools, two-body problem, and/or availability of medical care for her husband all played a role in why this family ended up supporting two households. But Erica deserved to have a secure living situation. (Columbus is a surprisingly expensive place to live.)
