It gives you time to get used to behaviours, while providing a baseline level of engagement.

Sure, an *entire game* where it's just the same guy isn't great. But an area? Yeah, it gives it an identity, and a comfortable flow to play that changes *some* when you change areas.

It certainly is interesting because, in many senses, it hasn't actually changed.

Think about it: What are you fighting for entire waves of a Survivor-like? Or an area in Diablo? Generally, an area in a metroidvania does just fine with 3-5 enemies per area.

There is very little pixelart that does *not* still look perfectly readable and even good most times without CRT.
