The Home Home Office shared that Immigration Enforcement was trialling the use of live facial recognition in the Holyhead Port week commencing 24 November 2025.

The British Transport Police has announced its use at key transport hubs in London. It will be deployed for a 6-month trial period with cameras set up on station concourses to capture live footage of passers-by.

The UK Home Office has already been issued various legally binding decisions deeming its use of technology against migrants unlawful, including electronic monitoring of migrants and the seizing and extracting data from migrants’ mobile phones.

Facial age estimation technology can be inaccurate and discriminatory, particularly for women and people of colour.

It is also inevitably an ‘estimate’, and in this context, an incorrect estimate could be life-changing.
