"Caught between the twisted stars the plotted lines the faulty map that brought Columbus to New York" (Lou Reed)
Another great Irish debut album. Both the songs themselves and the delicate arrangements are brilliant. It's my second favourite black album. (The first is Back In Black.)

It's a pity that this album is not more popular. It's much more than a typical blues rock record. I can highly recommend it to everyone.

An excellent early heavy metal album. Very raw and aggressive with fast guitars and lots of distortion. It's relatively unknown today, but seemed to be influental. At least it was ahead of its time.

If somebody asked me about my favourite new band, I'd probably say Black Country, New Road.

In the late 80s, I took a break from rock music and delved into British folk. I was lucky enough to find Nic Jones' albums in my record shop and was also wise enough to buy this and The Noah's Ark Trap. Today, they are extremely hard to find.

This is a very good album, but I prefer the CSN(Y) albums and Crosby's solo debut. Maybe it's a little bit too ambitious. Stills wanted too much and the result is uneven. However, it's the only album with both Hendrix and Clapton as guests.

Progressive country rock from an almost unknown band of studio musicians. Wayne Moss, a leading member of the band, had played guitar and bass on Dylan's Blonde On Blonde.

A jazz rock masterpiece. It's the feather-light counterpart to the loud high-speed virtuosity of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, with flute instead of electric guitar. It also includes an incredibly beautiful pop song, sung by Flora Purim.

Samuel Prody was a British psychedelic (i.e. slightly progressive) hard rock band. This is their only album and for reasons unknown to me, it was only released in Germany.

Probably one of the very best jazz rock albums. It's somehow heavy metal and mediative at the same time. The spirituality in the music is captivating, even for convinced non-believers like me.

A fantastic album. It took me a while to get it, though.

A strong contender for my top 5. The music is raw and kept simple, the production is lo-fi, and the songs are intimate and surprisingly catchy.

Definitely my number one on Friday. It's one of my favourite albums of this century. John Grant's songs are great as always; the tasteful arrangements by him and his backing band Midlake make it perfect.

Jack White's debut album is a natural continuation of his band career with the White Stripes. The music is more varied than before, but fortunately he has not abandoned his roots rock principles (i.e., no unnecessary "modern" experiments).

For fans of Regina Spektor. I'm one of them, and Caroline Keating obviously is too. The album is good, but unfortunately her voice and singing style sound too much like our idol's.

Traditional British folk music. As far as I know, Sam Lee is to British music what Ry Cooder is to American music. He explores the musical roots and preserves them through slightly modern interpretations.

Does anybody know this band? I saw them live when the record came out, but haven't followed their career since then. They make a kind of traditional folk music with pop melodies and use a variety of instruments.
