A former Petroleum Geologist, now obsessed with trying to find truth in journalism and politics, and performing arts that make a real difference for folks. I volunteer lots too!
This opinion is a good take on what just transpired between the Feds and AB. I know PMMC is a bit of a "blue" Liberal, but he's also a very shrewd one. The people and the press need to be very careful in assessing the likely motivations and effects of his actions.

Pretty sure that PMMC would find that a hoot, but not certain about the Prem. Smith reaction...

Should likely more properly read "ALBERTA TABLES BILL 12 TO SHIELD ITSELF FROM POOR INVESTMENT DECISIONS MADE BY AIMco, ITS HANDS-ON INVESTMENT ARM". AIMco has proven itself to be great at losing BIG money. Why should anyone trust it and the UCP masters controlling it?

IMO, Danielle Smith has been incapable of transitioning from former roles as a lobbyist, to a position in a senior political role. This'll be her undoing. She's lacking in any objectivity in problem solving, or developing public policy, preferring to fall back to previous "paid" positions. #ABpoli

Smith is acting like she fully expects these three criteria to be met solely by Fed actions, while she sits back and takes pot shots from the sidelines. She's not planning to lift a finger towards solving any of those major issues, but will complain loudly that Cda hates Alberta. Never responsible!

Danielle Smith must believe that there's an "I" somewhere in the word TEAM. The rest of Canada apparently must bow to her (Alberta's) wishes and pipeline fantasies, but she's nowhere to be seen when it comes to assisting any other regions. Diplomacy is not exactly her strong suit! #ABpoli

This is a really pertinent discussion and certainly seems to fit current societal directions. However, a minority is still a minority, despite attempts to impose a hierarchical and authoritarian structure on all of Alberta. That shoe doesn't fit everyone.

The choice is becoming clearer by the day. The big question will be how to manage the likely repercussions.

With such a cozy relationship between the UCP and senior O&G proponents, a major conflict of interest comes into play. The UCP wants/needs and depends on $ donations from the O&G industry. O&G Co's hope to escape clean-up liabilities so are keen to have the AB treasury pay instead. Greasy palms?

This should get interesting! Pretty sure that sponsors and organizers of the recall campaigns are carefully adhering to all the legislated rules. GoFundMe's to date have been for $500 application fee and all canvassers MUST be residents of the specific constituency in question.

Another case of unfounded American bravado. Plenty to admire about US history and I've met some truly fine folks from the US during my time and travels. But, how can Vance and the US administration be so blind as not to see that their country's world-wide reputation is in tatters, and getting worse?

I'm not so sure that "they know they won't be voted out". Recent UCP actions re a start-up political rival party, and reactions to petitions circulated and/or coming down the pipe suggest a degree of panic is setting in. Alberta does not want to be governed by autocrats. #ABpoli

Most Albertans will see right through this two-faced behaviour and will not appreciate it. The UCP and Smith, should they continue on this path of going back on their (supposed) core principals, will be punished whenever Albertans head to the polls again. Just too much political chicanery happening!
November 20, 2025 at 4:28 PM
Hoping that a different (subsequent) Alberta Provincial Gov't will be in a position to repeal these new laws invoking the NWC post haste. Comments? If so, campaigning to do just that should commence ASAP. Smith has to go, and so does the entire UCP caucus. Albertans' rights are being trampled.

Gotta inquire what's Smith been smoking in her pipe to give rise to those vivid pipeline fantasies? Whatever the case, her delusions can't be based on realistic social/environmental expectations or solid financial forecasts. Sure, Alberta wants a "free" pipeline, but stands alone it seems. #ABpoli

Nenshi is right on this one! Smith needs to call an elxn on this before taking further steps towards instituting her preferred healthcare "solutions". Let's see how ABtans feel? Warning, Smith won't like the answer. So knowing that, how can the UCP juggernaut justify its intentions? RECALL 'em all!
