I reached out to a very popular artist to see if I could purchase copies of their book alongside a big art print order. They disclosed they couldn't because the indie publisher who sells their book can only give them a 40% discount. It's a small pub I support and know it's not them being shady

Without seeing specific examples, if someone sources the printing of their zine to a printer vs DIY that typically has a lot to do with it. Printing prices have shit way, way up in then past few years. Smaller creators typically dont order as much to get a discount, materials, shipping, etc

Which, I should say, is different from asking for a specific book request (happy to do that) or they are looking for a specific genre (also happy to do that).
