@possibilize (x) . Strange things happen at sea when you run a fleet of robot submarines in the Indian, Pacific & Southern Oceans. All opinions my own
I think i saw one of those (or similar) unfortunately it was a little windy so hard to get a good shot (with by phone) from the angle i took the photo you cant really see the upper green bit but from memory it looked very similar (Jarrahdale , mundlimup timber trail)

except all land is not of equal quality.

Much of the area of land used for grazing cattle ect is not suitable for standard cropping

for example the vast majority of the area of grazing properties in Australia are in low productivity arid or semi arid regions

good question i thought it was all solar the data comes from here pv-map.apvi.org.au/analyses
the blurb on the site says it comes from RET (renewable energy target) data which i assume includes all solar.
As for who would do such a thing as to colour code a chart by PM ???
March 8, 2025 at 11:16 AM
he's the lowest installed solar growth prime-minister in 20Y (since the beginning of the data set ). even lower than Abbott . and its not like the rest of the world isn't going gangbusters.

I've been helping a colleague incorporate river flows into a #ROMS model of the #GBR . We had a heatwave in early January followed by a major flood event. The influence of the fresh water flowing onto the reef is stunning in these preliminary results 🌊

A few prime minister ago i wrote a script to plot cumulative installed PV verses Term of government

Every now and then i give it another run for laughs

the Albanese govt has the lowest growth on record. Even worse than Abbott
March 3, 2025 at 6:41 AM
don't make me "tap the sign" lowest solar growth of any prime minister in the modern era !!

less than Abbott!

And at a time of record international growth of solar.

there is focus groups and spin and ... then there is data! this govt is taking us backwards

.

the data is "currently still there" this is a python exercise i use and it still works

@oceanian.bsky.social We haven't got into really deep water yet but are starting to see a chlorophyll maximum layer at about 75m 🌊
January 31, 2025 at 7:39 AM
We have just deployed 2 ocean gliders to observe an extensive marine heatwave off Western Australia

It's very concerning

initial readings are 3-4C hotter than normal

right down to 100m deep

that's a phenomenal amount of extra energy

follow live at anfog.ecm.uwa.edu.au

Want to know about the water conditions in the
#GBR
right now ?

IMOS Ocean gliders Have launched an ocean glider mission in the waters of Mission Beach in Far North Queensland and YOU can follow it live

If only there was a way to cool the upper ocean by reintroducing mixing processes, deficient during coral bleaching events on the GBR?
Hint there is and we have demonstrated that the cool water is there and we can bring it to the surface www.rrrc.org.au/reef-havens/ 🪸 coral reef

Enough sun falls on the roof of the average suburban house in Australia to supply a surplus to their daily electricity needs

enough surplus to power their daily drive as well
November 18, 2024 at 11:45 AM
do you know about openmethane.org/map ?
reports observed CH4 emissions and matches the worst pixels to aerial photos (hint every one is a coal mine)
brought to you by the Superpower Institute which i believe is Ross garnaut's work.
October 12, 2024 at 11:36 AM
congratulations on getting it back & welcome to the club . we've had so many in Australia I've assembled all the damaged parts into two glider models we showcase at conferences
October 5, 2024 at 10:04 PM
what do you think is the causal link?

eg. Switzerland (a wealthy company not from fossil fuels) but its citizens can use their wealth to buy energy. (ie wealth driving energy use)

or Qatar (wealth from fossil fuels ie energy use driving wealth)

or some kind of spectrum inbetween

That's a Wrap IUGC2024.

Using Ocean Gliders's engineering flight data to visualise ocean mixing processes.

The random water flow of ocean mixing processes causes differential flow over each wing that shows up in the rolling motion of the glider

not my gig specifically, but my science program Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) animal tagging program does this and this photo is on the cover of almost everything. Ocean Gliders (my gig ) get a look in every now and then because they're yellow

Ok you prompted me to dust off the Australian installed PV by prime minister chart script. now updated to include the Albanese govt

the Albanese govt has so far presided over the poorest growth in PV (15%/y) since the start of the data next poorest was Abbott (23%y)
May 7, 2024 at 12:49 AM
Offsets approximately equal emissions growth 🤔

Did WA & QLD oil & gas grow by the amount of the available offsets?

OR Did the supply of offsets grow to meet the requirements of WA & QLD oil & gas?

If it's the latter then much of NSW and VIC apparent "gains" are really just fabricated offsets

They should make the battery ride-able (like this ride-able suitcase I snapped a photo of on the Singapore subway (the suitcase that carries you))

That way park the vehicle and ride the battery the rest of the way. plug it in while you work/shop/sleep
