reminds me of what (Bungie claims) happened with Marathon. someone (Bungie claims) downloaded some assets as placeholders and then (Bungie claims) they were left in by mistake because they looked good enough to not stand out as placeholders. true or not, it's more reason to use blatant placeholders

I'm turning in the level 30 gladiator quest (the final quest! the end of the gladiator storyline, after which I will become a paladin!) and one of the characters asks me "have you ever considered the coliseum?" MOTHERFUCKER I MOST CERTAINLY HAVE. THAT'S WHY I SIGNED UP FOR THE GLADIATOR'S GUILD LMAO

I'm turning in the level 30 gladiator quest (the final quest! the end of the gladiator storyline, after which I will become a paladin!) and one of the characters asks me "have you ever considered the coliseum?" the main antagonist of these quests is some guy who hates some other guy because there was a match-fixing scandal at the coliseum. the one I don't get to fight in, as a gladiator. so they definitely know what a gladiator is. but for me, the player, I guess a gladiator is a sword-and-shield-cop

gladiator cutscenes will be like "oh my god... that's Gumper Hexface! he was there that day seven years ago!" and it cuts to a menacing looking wizard who's never been mentioned before and three minutes later he's dead and will never be mentioned again

it's like if a monster battler type game was announced and all the marketing was about all the cool monsters they designed for the game and you said "great! I love reading posts from other people being as confused about this game as I was. there are so many Steam/Reddit/etc posts of people saying "hey so when do they start talking to each other? 🙂" and all the replies are "they don't. you should play a different game"
