It's larger, but the lack of any ergonomics on the back still make it pretty uncomfortable to hold. I'd gotten so used to my Hori Split Pad Compact on my Switch 1 that it felt like a downgrade on comfort upgrading to the Switch 2. I wish Nintendo would just make their own Joy-Con Pro option.

Correct, this is a garden variety VCD. The CD-i could play VCDs, but it required an additional "Digital Video Cartridge" that enabled MPEG decoding.

Man, fuck that crowd.

Bonus points if you reference whatever promotional movie tie-in messaging your theater chain is currently running. "Zootopia said to shut the fuck up".
December 9, 2025 at 2:53 PM
I used to do the three stage escalation of turn-around-and-make-eye-contact, then shushing, then saying "Please stop talking". But in the last couple of screenings I've just jumped right to loudly saying "Shut the fuck up" as early as possible and it's been pretty effective.

Theaters need to stop being so fucking cutesy with their "suggestion" to keep quiet. Everyone knows you're not supposed to talk or be on your phone, the people that still do it are self-important assholes who can't self-regulate unless their behavior is fully ridiculed and shamed before the movie.

Paramount is literally the worst media company that could gain market dominance. Worse than Netflix or even fucking Comcast. Fuck the Ellisons and Paramounts race to become state media.
December 8, 2025 at 10:23 PM
Sure, until Paramount starts editing or outright not releasing “subversive” work to disc because it’s not simpatico with their political cronies views.

I’m a big physical media enthusiast, but I don’t care how committed Paramount is to physical releases while they’re busy sucking fascist cock.
December 8, 2025 at 10:19 PM
It’s absolutely insane to say that of the three major bidders in this acquisition, Comcast was the least of the evils. COMCAST.
December 8, 2025 at 4:53 PM
Fuck no. Paramount kowtow to the Trump regime more than anyone. If a merger is absolutely going to happen, Paramount is the worst of all evils.
December 8, 2025 at 2:34 PM
Fuck this. For everyone that was upset about Netflix buying out WB, Paramount would be way worse. Not only would it consolidate two of The Big Five into one, it would further grow the company most willing to become state media. No one has rolled over for the fascists like Paramount/CBS.

The reveal in the final chapter has so much more weight when we learn it alongside The Bride rather than at the end of Vol. 1. It was really special getting to see this in the theater last night.

From PowerA? On an IP tie-in controller? For $25? Absolutely not.

Shrek's an interesting example as it was originally rendered below 1080p to begin with, so the 4K release largely only benefits from higher bitrate and maaaaybe enhanced color. The only thing they could do to merit a new "master" would be to re-render it from the ground up, if that's even possible.
December 1, 2025 at 4:11 PM
Another anniversary release, perhaps, but movies don't justget remastered for the hell of it on their anniversaries. Usually only happens once per major format shift.
December 1, 2025 at 4:11 PM
Keep in mind this 4K was released for Shrek's 20th anniversary in 2021. Next year will be it's 25th anniversary.

I'm always temped by sets like this, particularly this one since I love this franchise, but...it feels like it'll eventually feel incomplete if and when they make another.

Sounds like a win for the Overton Window.
November 18, 2025 at 4:12 AM
I had no clue Frakes directed that. Ah, that classic Paramount Nickelodeon synergy.

Think you mean the workplace comedy Clockwatchers rather than the teen sci-fi Clockstoppers.

I saw it over the weekend in Dolby and it’s just an all-timer. What a goddamn movie.
