My latest medical/comic book project is looking through golden age jungle comics*. I've read about five years worth and already have 10 pages of notes. That's much more than I expected.

*"jungle comics" meaning not just the eponymous Jungle Comics, but also the genre of jungle comics itself.

This weekend's plan: continue my deep dive into exactly what "blood disease" Michael Morbius had.
Cancer? Infection? Inquiring minds want to know.

It's a "congregation" of alligators, but a "bask" of crocodiles (on shore that is, in the water it's a "float" of crocodiles)

The only rapture you need to be worrying about today is Rapture, the addictive drug made by Alchemax that led Miguel O'Hara to become Spider-Man 2099.

Time for some good news: I have finished my Medical Guide to Marvel's 2099, Volume 1 and 2, which covers the original 2099 comics and Marvel Knights 2099.
You can find it here: politescott.com/2099/TNNtitl...
(I am working on a downloadable version too).

I was trying to discover which issue of Batman had Catwoman winning the "Queen for a Day" beauty pageant -- so I googled it and ended up with the useless AI nonsense.

In terms of the Legacy Virus, was any “human” other than Moira actually infected? Or was she the only one?

Finished my final leg. Much better than the second leg, though admittedly not as hilly (though still quite hilly). My legs have filed for divorce 😉

Second leg complete. Much tougher with the hills. 8:29 pace this time. The most important thing is that we’re beating BRC team #2. #r2r

Our teams first 5 legs of the River to River Relay complete. My first leg went well, though I ran faster than planned. I ended up running a 7:30 mile instead of the 8-8:30 I had planned. That’ll definitely come back to haunt me in later legs 😟

BRC Team #1 is getting ready to start the River to River relay. It’s an 8 person relay across Southern Illinois, from the Mississippi River to the Ohio. Each person runs 3 legs of roughly 3-1/2 miles each.

I love the names of the towns Morbius visited in his VAMPIRE TALES stories from the 70s: Malevolence, Maine; Gallows End, Nevada; and Painesville, Pennsylvania

Trying too hard to understand the plot twist in the Morbius story in ADVENTURES INTO FEAR #31 (Mantlo/Robbins/Colletta), especially the “it’s radioactive!” reveal.

Today, I’m going to revisit one of the stranger medications of the Silver Age: Jimmy Olsen’s hair elixir, from SUPERMAN'S PAL, JIMMY OLSEN #9.

In THE LEGION OF SUBSTITUTE HEROES SPECIAL, Infectious Lass inadvertently infects her teammate Color Kid, as well as several space shuttle passengers and personnel, with Grandin Gender Reversal Germs, with predictable results.
Sadly, it is the only thing she actually does in the issue.

One of my interests is the intersection of comic books and medical science, the quirkier the better. Case in point: Infectious Lass and her alien diseases. (1/8)

Took a bad tumble while running last night and ended breaking my elbow (radial head fracture). It’s been eye opening to realize how much you use the elbow in daily activities without realizing it.

It’s been five years since I was here last, but Indiana Jones remains my favorite ride at Disneyland. (California Adventures, probably Web Slingers.)

Patient, talking about his recent fishing: I caught a five-pounder last week and two four-pounders yesterday.
Me, surgically removing a deeply imbedded fishhook from his arm: And you caught a 225-pounder today.

Daughter has a cross country meet in Peoria this morning, and of course I’m going to cheer her on — which means I’m driving 2-1/2 hours each way for a 25 minute race

On vacation for the first time since the pandemic. A few days at a water park for the kids, then a couple of days at Fan Expo Chicago.
