In 1938, a stateless Jewish teenager in Paris named Herschel Grynszpan went into the German embassy and shot a diplomat from the Nazi regime. He was arrested and disappeared. The Nazis used this action as the pretext for Kristallnacht, the most famous pogrom in history.
