It's also an incredibly hard watch, there's just no good reason to allow the game to continue like this. It used to be that you would tire out the forwards and create space in the latter stages of the game but now everyone just puts on a new forward pack around 50 minutes.

Yeah it's like World Rugby saw the high standard of the WC quarter finals in 2023 and said what we need to do is encourage way more kicking.
November 23, 2025 at 3:06 PM
Lol yeah he's a good ref when he's screwing over a team you don't like. Good one.
November 22, 2025 at 10:37 PM
Lol don't think that would be enough to help you.
November 22, 2025 at 10:23 PM
Pity he didn't ref SA as well. Won't complain about the penalties against us but the same on their side wasn't penalised in the same way.
November 22, 2025 at 8:05 PM
I wouldn't mind if he was reffing it evenly. Cynical knock-on in a ruck by them penalty only, same offense by us, yellow. Shoulder to the head by us yellow card review. They do it , penalty only.
This is the ref who rode Fiji in the WC, he has form for only reffing one side.

When he didn't card SFM for a shoulder to the head he's shown his hand.
November 22, 2025 at 6:27 PM
Hopefully he'll come home to Leinster if he wants a break from international rugby.
November 18, 2025 at 1:24 PM
Don't think he'll ever be close to the breakdown threat that PoM was but he's already a more physical ball carrier and tackler. Pretty good in the defensive maul too.
He really needs to cut out the cheap penalties, that's his one glaring flaw at the minute imo.
November 16, 2025 at 9:05 PM
Yeah his tackling still isn't good enough but it is improving. He needs to keep working hard on it and be let defend at 10. Hiding him in the backfield is a cop out.
His passing, running and kicking were all excellent today so you can see why Farrell likes him.
November 15, 2025 at 10:11 PM
Definitely. When Ireland to them in 2013 is the only time in my life where sport has had a long term effect on my mood. I was really down for about 5 days after that one.
November 9, 2025 at 9:27 AM
In fairness he didn't lead with his shoulder he just stood his ground and braced himself for a collision he wasn't expecting.
If the scrum-half doesn't pass to Barrett (which he shouldn't have as Barrett is offside)then the same collision is obstruction and a penalty to Ireland.
November 6, 2025 at 12:19 PM
Yeah, the best gameplan in the world is no use without those basics and even a predictable, conservative gameplan can get the job done if it's executed to a high enough standard.
November 3, 2025 at 10:10 PM
Unfortunately World Rugby have tweaked the rules where kicking the leather off the ball is unavoidable if you want to win. Don't know how the looked at the quality of rugby played at the last WC and decided that what we need is more kicking.
November 3, 2025 at 1:03 PM
Way too many people think rugby is a game where you can just change the gameplan and it'll magically improve results.
Ireland struggled in the first few years under Farrell playing the same gameplan that eventually won a series in NZ. It's mainly down to how well the players execute on the field.
November 3, 2025 at 12:38 PM
More like if you go on a pitch with Dylan Hartley these things will happen.
October 25, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Yeah it was frustrating, have to hope it's just early season rustiness.
October 19, 2025 at 2:20 PM
were upright and standing still or jogging on to the ball. Then there was the poor passing from scrum-half and the idiotic offloads that were just giving the receiver no chance. Some of those were similar to what my u10 team do.
October 19, 2025 at 1:58 PM
Unfortunately there is no plan B when you're 5 metres out. Every team in the world bashes up until they either get over or create space and quick ball for the backs to attack.
VdF was the only one who looked like doing that as he consistently ran from deep , at pace and good angles. Everyone else
October 19, 2025 at 1:54 PM
I dunno, we were held up over the line twice and had multiple attacking mauls that were ineffective. We gave away a 14 point swing with the intercept and very nearly had a 2nd one.
Any attack that gives you that many chances is working pretty well. It's the finishing that was the problem.
October 19, 2025 at 1:31 PM
Our attack plan was fine, it got us multiple possessions their 22. It was execution that let us down and that was down to the scrum-half and forwards.
The result wouldn't have been any different if you swapped the outhalves but if you swapped Beirne for Snyman I could see us winning easily.
October 19, 2025 at 12:53 PM
Like who?
October 19, 2025 at 9:06 AM
Crowley didn't control the game. He didn't have enough ball.
He kicked well but it was Leinsters poor attack that defined the game. Gibson-Park was the main culprit, his passing was poor, he was slow to get the ball out and he picked the wrong option too often just hitting static one out runners.
