As Western "powers" ditch commitments to decarbonisation, here's the language they use to talk about those helping the world make real progress towards a green transition. #EconSky

Dominant economic theory would have you believe this roughly reflects this man’s marginal contribution to Tesla’s bottom line, not the pervasive cultish sycophancy and groupthink in US corporate governance.

An industry on the verge of a paradigmatic breakthrough? Or a giant circle-jerk cartelising an industry and propping up valuations towards the end of a wild speculative run?

One day, two articles. Both diagnosing deep malaises in the Chinese economy. All economies face challenges. But as the US & Europe head into a damaging downturn, expect more articles in this genre reassuring Western audiences that it is China’s model of economic management that is failing. #EconSky

This gem from the folks who had to pay $1.4bn to the US DoJ to avoid prosecution for gross malfeasance over their ratings of mortgage-backed securities in the 2000s.

Meanwhile, people are arguing in the US about how limited autonomy makes EVs “impractical” like it’s 2010….

Notice how contemporary arguments about “incentives” always land on astronomical giveaways to the rich and privileged, and on the cruelest, most miserable forms of stinginess for the poor and powerless?

Anybody else notice the difference in the way establishment outlets discuss regressive and progressive taxes?? Federal income tax raises $2.5tn or more than 83. times $30bn. Where’s the article arguing that size makes it hard to cut it??

People should pay attention not only to the July figure but to the dramatic downward revisions for May and June. Macroeconomic responses are typically much slower than people's attention spans. That includes the consumer price increases headed your way. #EconSky

Repeat after me,

Y = C + I + G + (X - M)

And a three percent increase in Y supported by large falls in M is not a sign of economic growth.

The normalizing way the NYT writes about Trump’s efforts to use tariffs to obstruct justice in Brazil, and about his argument that tariffs on copper somehow will help secure access to this “strategic resource,” is super-duper extra…

I wonder if more than a century of epidemiology, immunology, and medical science have anything to say about this…

NYT at its normalizing obscurantism best here.

This came out almost five years ago and, if I may say so myself, has not really gotten the attention it deserves. Both from those interested in competitive price systems, and those interested in new places where informational measures may be helpful.

NYT trying to “both-sides” a concerted push to de-carbonize energy systems and a concerted push to keep them anchored on oil and gas.

I'm just going to leave this little gem from the NYT right here, in case future historians want to understand the depths of elite cowardice and willingness to normalise Trump in his second term.
