I'm glad it wasn't cheap jumpscares. Instead the true horror from this film came from the emotional dread, hopelessness, and absolute feeling of doom. And my god it really got to me. Terrifying.
Dreadfulness is especially affective horror, moreso that the typical cliché of slashers and zombie films.
