Of course he has every right to put himself forward. All the magazine quote you seemed to be criticising was saying was that if wanted a realistic chance of being picked up, he should play some t20 cricket to show a track record. That seems pretty obvious.

He has no "right" to be picked up by a franchise in a global auction for the IPL in a format he has not played for over 10 years. If he wants the pay packet he will need a t20 record to make his case. That's all Dan was saying.

He is making the logical point that he has no recent experience of T20 performance at any level and so stands little chance of being picked up at the IPL auction which he has surprisingly entered. If he had built a record by playing domestically he would have a T20 track record to back him up
