It's been at the back of my mind honestly. I love the OG arcade Shinobi (and Shadow Dancer, and Rolling Thunder 2&3 on Genesis). There's something really satisfying with how the memorization, tactics and rhythm all work together in these games.

Spot on.

And even saving a single (getup) frame per character in vram on NES could have been significant. That said, only the devs really know the reasons behind their design choices. Other bmups on NES have getups, but TMNT II cut them.

TMNT II on NES did this, probably to save on animation frames rather than avoiding knockdown loops, but it works pretty well. It makes this port feel snappier than the arcade version.

Yeah, it doesn't solve the issue entirely but ot at least alleviates it a bit. And yup, in Punsher, the Karate guys air reset (not always) on throws.

I had a similar thought while working on my current project. From the get go, I wanted to slow down the combat a little to make it feel more deliberate, but on top of this, two solutions I used were to give all characters air resets on weak midair attacks in addition to a juggle limit system.

Both are fantastic, but I love KOD the best: its pacing is snappy (despite its 16 levels!), it puts up to 5 enemies on screen at the same time (a rarity for SNES beat 'em ups), and it has great music.

That said, KOTR has some fun unique mechanics like parrying and splitting money/food.

I always found announcements for announcement pretty dumb, but yeah, still curious.

Instantly purchased and will double-dip with the Genesis cart when it comes out! Fantastic game with legendary music! Playing this fires me up to get back to work on my own Genesis game project! 🔥💪

The game looks fantastic! I love all the sprite work, great job!

Not sure, might be because of the revision of some chip in this model. The Jr. has some compatibility issues with a few retail games. I tested the X6 on 2 different SNES Jr. with Mario Kart and it got major sprite glitches. However, there's no issue on my fat SNES or on my 1-Chip Super Famicom.

And if you have a SNES Jr., the Super EverDrive X6 doesn't even play DSP-1 chip games properly (though they work OK on other SNES revisions).
