‼️ A draft law supported by 30 members of the Parliament, aims to roll back Romania’s coal phase out and, at the same time, delivers a masterclass in manipulation. The proposed law reopens the possibility of building new coal power plants, as well as continuing the operation of new and existing ones.

1/ ❄️Every winter reminds us how much energy houses consume. In the Western Balkans, buildings use 40% of total energy due to poor insulation and outdated systems.

The answer is energy efficiency coupled with energy sufficiency.

❗A salient message for the #WesternBalkans as well:

- Albania 🇦🇱, Kosovo 🇽🇰 and Montenegro 🇲🇪 are gas-free

- Gas makes up <3% of energy in BiH 🇧🇦

- MKD 🇲🇰 and Serbia 🇷🇸 use gas, but have much lower dependence than the EU.

Yet all except 🇽🇰 seem bent on getting (more) hooked.

Don't be fossil-fooled❗
The EU has finalised its ban on Russian gas – but there's a huge risk of just replacing this gas with supplies from the US and elsewhere, continuing pollution and leaving Europe open to extortion

It's time for an end to fossil fuels, and a move to 100% renewables and cutting energy waste

Wow, this is quite special:

The Republika Srpska authorities are spending EUR 120 million buying out Comsar Energy RS, owned by a Russian billionaire, which since 2013 has failed to build a coal power plant at Ugljevik 🏭

Not bad for a company that has done almost zero.

Among the European Commission initiatives set to be launched tomorrow, 10 December, is the so-called Grids Package.

Despite its harmless-sounding name, it's yet another needless threat to the ecosystems we all depend on. This manic deregulation drive has to stop!
