one mark of a truly good work is it defies summary so if the best way to pitch it is to go "just read it" then thats a totally valid thing to do imo

same lol if people ask me what my novels about i have a hard time explaining it because im like "its about this, but its also about this, but its also about this but its also about THIS" and whos got that kind of time

my classmates and i will often write pitches for each others work/review each others query letters since we're like, a step removed from the creation process of another writer's work but still trust each other to explain it in a way that feels like. idk authentic to the project itself

a lot of people struggle with this and i think its because you as the author know every single detail and are intimately acquainted with the nuances of your own themes so defining it in tropes feels reductive.

im the same way. in my mfa one of my professors is constantly like dont worry about advertising your work thats why publishers have a marketing team. but its also like, we still have to be able to pitch to agents before a publisher picks us up?
