Anyway, B5 is a good show and you should go watch it it you haven’t. Season 1 can be a tough watch at times if you aren’t into the vibe, the dated effects, and the stilted acting, but honestly I think it’s an easier watch than, say, TNG season 1. And some of B5’s stories are sadly relevant today.

After O’Hare’s death in 2012, B5 creator J. Michael Straczynski revealed that O’Hare had been experiencing worsening mental illness during that first season, a fact that they’d agreed to keep private until after his death. O’Hare wanted the fans to know eventually.

I was surprisingly sad to see O’Hare depart the show between seasons. I remember, the first time I watched B5, being relieved.

Of course, that was back when the reason for his departure wasn’t publicly known.

But I really remember Michael O’Hare, as Commander Sinclair, being the weakest link, and he was far from it. He’s not Patrick Stewart or Avery Brooks or anything, but he was fine. Sometimes really good!

(Next skeet has spoilers for early season 2 so…)

The acting was what I remembered being the worst. And, like, some of it is really not good. And the good is Londo ane G’Kar and some scene-chewing guest stars. But if you don’t enjoy some fine dining on the scenery, B5 probably isn’t the show for you.

So I had been mentally preparing myself for a struggle getting through the season on long-awaited second viewing, probably while constantly saying, ”No, believe me, it gets great eventually!” myself.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s an acquired taste, but I actually really enjoyed season 1 all the same.

I didn’t watch B5 when it aired. I watched it for the first time about twenty years ago, rented disc by disc from Netflix back when that’s what Netflix was.

My memories of season 1 are mostly of it being kind of a slog, propelled mainly by my friends insisting it gets great eventually. (It does.)

How does one show up ANYWHERE without any dice?

He didn’t used to be this way, but then Scotty comes aboard and hassles him one time and suddenly Geordi is all about ejecting the warp core just to see if he can make the ship work without it.
