If you're Hindu, supporting these programs are Dāna and are dharma. For Buddhists, they fall under the first two perfections.

Sikhism explicitly calls for communal food support as Langar.

Secular Humanists: people will suffer, so you have a moral obligation to act.

If you're Jewish, your responsibility is to do the work of Tikkun Olam; failing to support programs like this is failing that responsibility.

If you're Muslim, programs like this support a universal, society-wide *Zakat*, and are in line with the Quran's principals of protection of the vulnerable.

Not for nothing, but if you think you're a Christian, Jesus said to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, and welcome the stranger. He didn't put qualifiers on it. If you support a society that doesn't do these things, you're not a Christian, you're following an Antichrist.

I've seen people on the internet saying that recipients should just get a side hustle to tide them over. They're already limited to just those people who literally *cannot work any harder than they are*. More work is not going to make up for this assistance.

The eligibility requirements are: You are disabled, in school, taking care of a child under 6 or an incapacitated person, or are already working 30 hours per week. If you're 18-54, aren't disabled and have no dependents, you have to be working 80 hours per week to qualify.

For the under-informed, you cannot get SNAP assistance unless you are under a specified earning max and if you are between 16 and 65, you have to meet the eligibility requirements.

SNAP is one of our most efficient, highly targeted, and economically positive gov programs, and failing to fund it is going to cause a lot of hurt to people, for no other reason than that our entire government is being held hostage by bad faith actors who, quite simply, *want the cruelty*.
