Some people have lofty art muses, others… we have hyperactive art gremlins.
I need more of this. It lives rent free in my brain.

😉 The accompanying fic:
For the #MayAthenaBeWithYou #STSMayChallenge

Based off @milosflaca.bsky.social’s art for that promt: Visitor

He is a real person, after all.
That is what strikes Hyoga the hardest: not that other people might love Camus or appreciate his company, but that he can feel the same.

Bueno, esta vez hice un mini comic. Siempre pensé que Camus es ultra serio y solo se reía con Milo (lo cual le causaba un pesar muy grande a Hyoga cuando lo descubre).
Hay que darle click para ver el trabajo completo.

Maybe he is unworthy, after all.

‘But he has feelings, like a real human’ Hyoga thinks to himself. In the darkness of the Siberian winter, the sliver of light from under the door feels like betrayal. That Camus has a heart feels like describing the Northern Lights to a blind man: there is something he will never see.

If he has feelings that can be reached… how can he treat him and Isaac with such dutiful chill and detachment? Hyoga had begun to think they were both simply unworthy of more - him especially - as Isaac had more than once earned a toneless praise while Hyoga only received sharp reprimands.

It’s as if the world has turned itself upside down. Hyoga has few certainties he can hold on to: that his mother loved him, that he must become a saint or die trying, and that Camus feels nothing at all. This last thing now seems less like a certainty and more like a question.

The first year in training has been grueling, and though he knows he cannot accuse Camus of unwarranted cruelty, he had become convinced that there was an unreachable, inhuman quality to his heart that nothing could breach.
Now he is laughing with a stranger, eyes shining with mirth.

Aquí el fic que acompaña ❤️
For the #MayAthenaBeWithYou #STSMayChallenge I’m going back to my roots as a fanfic writer.

“Hand it over.”
“No.”

– but he returns the cross, angry, hurt and despairing, almost 5 years later. He flings it at Hyoga’s feet and tells him to bury Isaac’s body, and never return. Hyoga does only one of those things, clutching at the cross, as he prays to deaf gods for a degree of mercy none of them will know.

“Do you promise?” Even hushed his childish voice carries some steel.
“Boy, I never break my promises.” He will keep the cross safe, even if he can already tell this boy is a dead man walking.

he will not survive training. There is too much emotion - too much passion - in that tiny heart for Camus to believe he can be made into anything worthwhile. He will perish because of the weather, or because he cannot be loyal enough to a cause that is not his own.

Icy blue eyes widen, a hint of interest and perhaps a desire to trust in his word. Camus has wrangled such trinkets off children before, but he has never promised a safekeeping. Then again, this entire exchange speaks volumes to him about the nature of the boy’s strengths and failings:

“Let’s make a deal, boy. If you hand it over now, I will give it back to you when you prove yourself to be worthy of the Cygnys Cloth. I will keep it safe, for you, until then.”

“You will die, as I do not suffer weaklings.”
Eyes wide and uncompromising, the boy shakes his head again. Camus can already feel a headache coming on. The train is about to leave and if they have any hope to make it back to the cabin before nightfall they have to go.

“Now hand it over.”
“It was mama’s. It’s all I have left of her.”
Camus blows out an impatient breath, bending to one knee in front of the recalcitrant child. “You are all that’s left of your mother, and if you don’t listen to me, even that will die. Do you understand me?

The eyes that gaze back at Camus are unafraid of consequences, there is a stubborn will there that may have potential. If - and only if - he can learn to let go.
“An ice saint has no attachments, no past loyalties. If you are going to train under my wing, you have to give this up.
