If you're given only twelve 1 ohm resistors but you need a circuit with an equivalent resistance of pi (approximated as closely as possible), and you have to use all of the resistors (no shorting or leaving them out), here the ways to get 22/7 ohms (which is the best you can do). #math #circuits

Maybe a bit ambitious before bed... Still work to be done to get it in terms of a strict quadratic programming problem (remove the "forall"). But this is what it looks like in terms of a_3, b_3, pretty ugly. On the wiki for quadratic programming, this gives Q and c but not sufficient A or b.

Recently have been quite fond of this guy turning any rational generating function into its sequence of coefficients, using the stream processing ideas in the book SICP. It's nice that it's only like 35 lines of js and is totally general.

I'd love to see this zooming into 1/phi! ;)

Anyone post #math challenges on here? This integral (said to be due to Joseph Bertrand) posted by ChetuyaGamma on the other site hooked me. (I think integrating via contour is consider the coward's way out, but I like the wiggly lines okay?)

Had to pause the latest #3blue1brown video after the 10 seconds to try to solve it myself.
Given an n cube, how many unique connected partial n cubes can we construct out of (n-k) faces? (This is rhetorical, I'm trying it and will try to bumble my way through the computations)

Hey um anyone have the largest prime factor of 67^67-1 laying around?

Thanks @countgrimhart.bsky.social for the amazing art!
Cooking up a character for some stream and video projects (she got bored in the cultist lobby and started scribbling e-γ scattering formulas on her cloak. They didn't have any spares so now she's stuck with it...)

I have a lot of people to thank for my journey, but I have to say the minimal polynomials of cos(n pi/m) made me into the man I am today. Well no, but can you imagine?
(the highlighted one came up in a problem today while solving for 1/sin(x)-1/sin(2x)=1/sin(4x))

One of the more obtuse ways to calculate Fibonacci numbers. My determinant formula circled in green gives rise to the recursion r -> 1+1/r. The fixed point r=1+1/r is solved by r=phi, the golden ratio

It shows as animated in the preview! Oh well. This is physics I learned ~10 years ago, but it's fun to come back to. tldr is that it's a cool system where you can see the transition between behavior of one type and another if you study it carefully enough.

Using simulated annealing to move towards a constant density configuration in an SPH-like setup. This particular setup isn't useful, but I love how it has a random terraced texture look.

First hydrodynamics (SPH) simulation! It's just a "dumb" first pass to prove that I can get stuff like energy conservation to work. The obvious next step is to scale up to millions of particles instead of a thousand or so!

Same as @diffgeom.bsky.social, LaTeX! If you converse physics with me you'll find me either screenshotting or linking to mathb.in all the time. Really good for sharing and allowing other people to see the equations and source code! For example, something I was sketching out today: mathb.in/76892
