Signs From the Universe (After My Ex-Fiancée Leaves Me)

She'd dropped it months prior, and had bought the kit as an apology, but had never quite gotten round to fixing it. As I spent the evening pouring liquid gold into the cracks and jigsawing the pieces back together, back into something whole and functional, bent at the waist at my kitchen counter and shepherding my curious cats out of the way, I almost cried at the aptness of the situation. A sign from the universe that the only one who could put me back together was me." Another screenshot of the piece of writing. Text reads: "The week after my fiancée leaves me, after a particularly stressful solo trip to the vet, I plucked fat, juicy blackberries from the knotted and gnarled brambles that had slowly overtaken the once beautiful garden. I remembered how, in the winter, those same vines had cut into my flesh and bled me, sticky red rivulets cutting across alabaster skin. It felt like a gentle reminder that after the pain, sweetness can be found. I mascerated the berries and fed my friends with them." Another screenshot of the piece of writing.
