yep. Covid taught that when anti-public health conspiracy theorists experience predicted negative consequences, it's seemingly less upsetting for them to double down on the conspiracy theory. The measles will presumably be explained as immigrants spreading Hillary Clinton's bioweapon, or something.

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

I would definitely consider voting for a UK party who decisively announced that their message to the British working people was 'don't be a sheep, be a camel' 🙏

that seems unfair to camels! They're amazingly well adapted to a wider range of extreme environments than is commonly known, and you've got to admire the intelligence of an animal who planned ahead and resolved to be too Difficult to be factory-farmed.

I mean, conversely, there's that story that space shuttles taking off from Cape Kennedy caused male alligators for miles around to start doing frantic dominance displays, in response to the very loud low frequency roaring sound. That must have felt nearly as personal as the sexy dangernosebumps 🙁

because everyone knows bigots are singlemindedly continuous bigots. If you can find a single instance of them saying something borderline civil or 'nice' about an oppressed person (even if it's a hypothetical/ imaginary oppressed person) then they MUST be a compassionate ally /s

somewhat less so at NHS events specifically, or at least I hope so (not that I think all NHS workers are allies, but I think a high percentage are at least aware of new transphobic policies with the potential to generate extra work 🙄)

see also, Wes's speech to the NHS's annual LGBT+ Conference this year, which would have been a fairly reasonable milquetoast liberal statement if it were from some random bloke with no policy record? And it's like he doesn't expect anyone to find that weird

this is the defining feature of this government, I think, which I find very difficult to understand. It's like some strategist read a thing about media/ social media polarisation, and concluded this means if you say something inclusive then bigots will literally never find out, and vice versa.
