Last four logged: new Predator definitely has some Disney Star Wars energy, but it's still pretty fun. Pacino and Hackman give wonderful, authentic performances in Schatzberg's big road movie. Exquisite wushu splatter violence. Surprisingly mean mafia epic.
January 26, 2026 at 6:00 AM
A new four: sci-fi psychodrama starring a very game Alicia Vikander. Bi Gan's latest is rapturous and cerebral. Fastvold's b-side to THE BRUTALIST that's being woefully overlooked during awards season. Lynne Ramsay adapts Anita Harwicz to less than satisfying results.

Guys I think Geese is a pretty cool band, hopefully that's not an irrational opinion to express on the ol internet

Next four: animated vignettes serve as connective-ish tissue for the current iteration of the Predator franchise. Powell & Pressburger's classic has a magnificent ballet centerpiece. Friedkin gives us one of the greatest car chases ever. Bond by way of grindhouse acid-trip.
January 25, 2026 at 6:28 AM
Next four: this Malkovich -also- fucks. Scott Cooper continues what I can only assume at this point is his goal to be the most mediocre and unremarkable filmmaker of his time, while the only passion Yorgos has is for being a weird lil freak. Peckinpah's thorny Civil War epic.
January 25, 2026 at 5:10 AM
Logging through it: the most embarrassing pile of dogshit to ever bear the Trek mantle, and that's really saying something. Gooey late 90s cable programmer. GDT's latest is him playing the hits, for better and for worse. This Malkovich fucks.
January 25, 2026 at 4:56 AM
A new four: neon soaked romantic dramedy with an absolutely insane soundtrack stacked with Teddy Pendergrass jams. Uneven horror debut still shows a lot of promise. Luca's extremely latest is messy and by far his weakest. Late Carpenter made more watchable by young future stars.
January 24, 2026 at 3:23 AM
Next four: Kelly Reichardt and Josh O'Connor supremacy. Tense and upsetting Iranian political drama. Mid-aughts Spanish found footage flick holds up extremely well. Dog moms, am I right everybody?
January 24, 2026 at 3:01 AM
Last four logged: clever little low budget time paradox. Dekker and Black deliver big spooky fun. Bleak euro-thriller. Decidedly less clever low budget time paradox.

Another four logged: Exhumed ends with an absolute crowdpleaser of a finale. Ethan Hawke in two extremely different roles that I love for very different reasons. Complicated but imperfect sex dramedy that's possibly more charming because of its faults.
January 23, 2026 at 12:57 AM
A witching-hour four courtesy of Exhumed: bizarre and dull supernatural kiwi nonsense. Droning Lovecraftian terror. Slow, atmospheric euro horror. Very silly and budget-conscious ouija scares.

Time to tap the sign
I've been on a big Spike Lee kick recently -- revisiting some classics as well as filling in blind spots. The thing that is most clear to me is how we have, to this day, completely undervalued Delroy Lindo as a performer. What a talent.
January 22, 2026 at 5:34 PM
Next four, Exhumed edition: two years in a row, a King adaptation absolutely kills with a packed crowd. Logy Carmilla riff. Jodie Foster terrorized by pedo Marty Sheen. John Landis is a so-called 'divisive' director, in that Vic Morrow's head was entirely divided from his body.
January 22, 2026 at 5:16 AM
Next four: Graveyard Love, but sexy, gross, and exquisitely shot. Caustic buddy cop programmer where Dreyfuss and Estevez probably ought to have switched roles. The Exhumed 24 Hour Horror-Thon kicks off with Bava and the Macabre Maven herself.
January 22, 2026 at 4:56 AM
Last four logged: a couple of underseen gems courtesy of Radiance, splatter King Frank Henenlotter delivers one of the most New York movies of all time. Nick Stahl finds himself trapped in Bargain Basement THE MENU.
January 22, 2026 at 4:31 AM
Another four: the third installments in the EROTIC GHOST STORY franchise might be my favorite? Fukasaku's final Yakuza flick. There's more to Aronofsky's first film than you may remember. A perfect snapshot of a specific moment in youth culture.
January 21, 2026 at 8:39 AM
Last four logged: eerie folk horror that presages Robert Eggers and his whole deal. Diminishing returns from the TRON franchise.

How @itgrrl.bsky.social talks about me to her friends
January 20, 2026 at 2:42 AM
Next four: Benny Safdie's solo outing. More Golden Harvest smut. Carnage at the movies. Eric Bogosian swings for the fences.
January 19, 2026 at 1:36 AM
Last four logged: tremendous Marianne Jean-Baptiste performance. More yakuza from Fukasaku. Early Del Toro ghost story. Park's vampire movie.
January 18, 2026 at 9:10 PM
A new four: Emilio's directorial debut is chasing his daddy in Malick's BADLANDS but with severe brain damage. Hong Kong smut from Golden Harvest. Coke-fueled mosaic filmmaking in the San Fernando Valley. Fat Bill Forsythe is smoking crack and shooting people in the face.
January 18, 2026 at 6:28 AM
Next four: true dad cinema. Classic Cronenberg has some great scenes but doesn't quite fire on all cylinders. Tim Robbins and pals put on an entertaining anti-fascism show. Early Sean Baker proves he's always been the fucking man.
January 18, 2026 at 6:11 AM
Last four: ninja nonsense from Transworld Entertainment that's a little bit Cannon Films with the evilest white boy villain. Brilliant prison drama courtesy of Radiance Films. Goofy fun blaxploitation jam-packed with charisma. They could never make me hate you, Frank Whaley.
January 18, 2026 at 5:57 AM
Last four logged: RAD but Australian with a baby Nicole Kidman. The best movie in over a decade from a filmmaker who's never once fallen off. DOCTOR VAMPIRE is an exceptionally silly supernatural sex farce. A mixed bag of animated shorts.
