PURPLE NOON (1960)
IMHO, René Clément gave us the finest adaptation of Patrica Highsmith's novel THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY. Alain Delon is Ripley par excellence. Highly recommended. 🎥

ALLISON JANNEY
One of the best actors on the screen today. Janney's breakthrough came with the role of C. J. Cregg in the THE WEST WING. She was also delightful as the star of MOM. What role do you think of her for?

CHINATOWN (1974)
I was 16 when I first saw this and I thought it was one of the best movies ever made. I still do. I bow down to writer Robert Towne. Essential viewing. 🎥

TERROR BY NIGHT (1946)
There is something comforting about Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Holmes and Watson. Maybe it is nostalgia, maybe it is their easy camaraderie, but for many of us they remain the definitive duo. 🎥

In Alfred Hitchcock's first "sound film," he uses sound surreally and effectively. (The woman is the killer, who used a knife to defend herself.)

POINT BLANK (1967)
John Boorman’s film is a cool, brutal, and hypnotic crime saga, taking Richard Stark’s great novel THE HUNTER and turning it into a jagged burst of style, mood, and vengeance that still feels ahead of its time. Highly recommended. 🎥

THE LITTLE FOXES by Lillian Hellman
A fierce portrait of Southern greed and family betrayal, powered by sharp dialogue and a cool sense of moral rot simmering beneath every scene. The original 1939 Broadway production starred Tallulah Bankhead.

WRITTEN ON THE WIND (1956)
My favorite Douglis Sirk film. A melodrama with such gorgeous cinematography (by the great Russell Metty) that I can't even follow the story. I just sit in awe of its beauty. Highly Recommended. 🎥
