Wenn man jetzt wüsste, was eine "Weltsprache" genau ist, woher man das weiß, wie viele es gibt, wer das festgelegt hat...
Und da es doch Weltsprachen sind, wozu braucht man dann Übersetzung und Dolmetschen - ist das nicht vielmehr für die weniger geläufigen Sprachen nötig?

Online Autumn lecture This year’s Autumn lecture will take place on Thursday 27 November at 5 pm CET. As announced in July, it will be a joint lecture by Leena Kolehmainen (University of Helsinki), Philipp Krämer (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and Ulrike Vogl (Universiteit Gent). Please find their abstract below. Closing doors: Universities restructuring their language training programs Across Europe, universities have been scaling back or closing their language programmes. This trend has far-reaching consequences for students, researchers, societies and international collaboration. In our presentation, we will introduce our ongoing research project, which aims to map these developments, understand where and why they are happening and assess their impact on diversity in language education. In our talk, we will report the preliminary findings of our questionnaire survey. Through this survey, we gathered insights from staff at numerous European higher education institutions. Their responses provide valuable information about the reasons behind closures, the strategies universities use to cope with them, and their effect on language learning, teaching, and research. Everything about post-Brexit Britain says "please don't come", even the signage in the Channel Terminal in Brussels suggests the UK is a minor peripheral destination.
Yet here I am, on an overpriced train after two passport checks, headed to a conference on this deliberately remote island.

Même si mon français est pas parfait, je peux combiner mes langues pour me faire comprendre, et ça marche Et tu sais, culturellement, c’est drôle aussi... parfois je glisse un mot en néerlandais par accident, ou un mot anglais... et ils me regardent avec un sourire : “Ah oui, tu parles bruxellois à ta façon !”" Extrait d'une interview sociolinguistique réalisée à Bruxelles : "En fait, l’accent bruxellois pour moi c’est le français parce que je... j’ai l’habitude quoi." Extrait d'une interview sociolinguistique réalisée à Bruxelles : "Je pense que les Français doivent être un peu plus ouverts aux autres et peut-être apprendre d’autres langues pour se sentir aussi dans cette atmosphère, cette ambiance d’apprendre quelque chose de nouveau et de « oh, j’ai un accent ». C’est tout. Peut-être ça va aider, parce que c’est un fait connu qu’il y a des problèmes avec les langues étrangères en France. Donc, peut-être, si eux, ils investissent plus en ça, il y aura moins de problèmes avec l’accent des autres, des emprunts."

Ich bin ja generell leicht zu begeistern für wertschätzende Sichtbarmachung von Dialekten im öffentlichen Raum - dass REWE damit ungeniert das Grundprinzip der Bahn so direkt am Gleis bloßlegt, ist natürlich nochmal köstlicher.

I'm not one of those people who have a weirdly positive attitude about autumn (some sort of seasonal Stockholm syndrome, if you ask me), so I was very grateful for this brief moment today where it was summer again for the exact duration and frame of one picture.

It's amazing how those smart tools make our lives so much easier: I couldn't be more grateful for the suggestion made by a soulless machine that thinks I would like to schedule a video call with my colleagues at half past midnight on a Saturday because obvisously our agendas are wide open.

Wenn einem Journalisten selbst die einfachsten Fehlschlüsse und unverschämtesten Vergleiche nicht auffallen (wollen), dann kann man mit Blick auf die Chancen im Kampf gegen Rechtsextremismus schon sehr mutlos werden. Wie kann man so sehr mit Anlauf und freiwillig in die rhetorische Falle springen?
