I think you are rather different to journalists like Chris Mason, who don’t really discuss potential impacts of policy and choices available, and instead merely speculate on who’s up, who’s down, who’s in the tent, who’s out. It’s all heat and noise.

It looks like @coldwarsteve.bsky.social superimposed a political science event onto a Downton Abbey ballroom scene.

It is a red flag, but I find the ultimate red flag is when they assume everyone else thinks like them anyway, and are just being woke because they won’t admit it.

Depends who you talk to - plenty of people I know still complain about the difference between their gross and net pay. Many of the same also complain about poor public services, but hey ho.

Game of Thrones - last couple of series gave the impression its makers had somewhere else to be (they did).

What about shows having the opposite trajectory - Blackadder (if we pretend series 3 didn’t happen)?

It’s a broader point but New Labour is a good example - they didn’t increase taxes or use debt to pay for repairs to hospitals and schools because they were scared of how it would be reported. So they used PPI instead, which was disaster. Also, what did Boris Johnson do to improve the country?

The problem with UK fiscal policy is government cowardice in the face of a juvenile electorate whipped up by a toxic media owned by rich people who don’t want to pay tax.

I’m pretty sure he would have been cited for foul play if his tackle had met the threshold. Has he been cited?

Has The Sunday Sport had a makeover? Will the Lancaster bomber be seen on the moon again?

Please cut spending on things I don’t use, says Tories everywhere.

We still want free travel, TV licence, no VAT on school fees, winter fuel payments …

I know that because I attended talks hosted by IFG and Resolution Foundation. They despaired at low information commentators in the media and on socials who just spout the kind of stuff that you have

You didn’t provide evidence at all, merely hearsay and anecdotes. And did your “friends” lie about conditions to get money? If so, did you inform DWP?

Also, many teenagers claiming mental health benefits come from care, broken homes, teenage pregnancy, drug problems AND mental health repeated to it

Yes he could, but it seems broadcasters are slow to cover stuff that isn’t on the front page of right wing newspapers.

“1.4% is a lot” - are you suggesting the government cuts ALL spending on disability benefits or the ALL people claiming it are doing so fraudulently?

The group with the biggest increase since 2019 is those aged 15 to 19 - are they all middle class and subsiding freelance businesses?
November 23, 2025 at 10:29 AM
OBR: total government spending in 2024/25 was £1,278.6bn, of which PIP cost £18bn, which is just 1.4%of spending. Still a lot, but not the biggest.

And can you please supply this evidence that proves people are using PIP to subsidise an affluent lifestyle.
