Cluster analysis indicates three layers of "party-state permeation":
1️⃣State-dominated "commanding heights" (energy, transport, infra)
2️⃣Mixed-ownership innovation core (EVs, finance, ICT)
3️⃣Private-dominated sectors (retail, services, internet) – but still party-permeated

We built a novel dataset – SinoTop500 – covering China’s 500 largest companies. Results:
📌 A dual ownership structure (state and private equally dominating)
📌 But > 64% show high party institutionalization, including many private giants
📌 The CCP’s organizational reach goes far beyond SOEs
