Issue is not your knuckle or the cupboard, but your attempt to clean something.

Next time don't try to get the cleaning spray

This is true! The reasoning behind this is that when you try to run both at the same time on the same stick, neither work well.

So it's a one or the other. The first device SkyConnect / ZBT-1 promised all in one but it just caused didn't work out.

You mentioned locally only, so I hope you've got backup sorted.

I've got a great self-hosted setup with Vaultwarden and Bitwarden

Its hard to pick a favourite, and I genuniely enjoy every year mix.

If I had to choose, I think the 2018 Year Mix has some great transitions

I always had grand plans of a UPS for the TV, a UPS for the routers + switch etc so I could keep the entertainment alive without power. But I guess these aren't for that purpose after all

oh well, looks like all the FP1's are cooked. Can't work out how to factory reset them to put them into pairing mode.

Looks like I now have an excuse/reason to put some of the @apolloautomation.bsky.social presence sensors around the house
December 11, 2025 at 12:43 PM
Yeah I agree! I think I'll be looking into a UPS for the new year. With that said all my FP1 sensors seem to have bitten the dust. They're all USB powered so don't think its a surge or anything.

I think a UPS is in my 2026 future

A small blackout has caused a few gremlins to appear in my smart home. I now need to get the house back in order.

Consider this a PSA if you have a smart home of any controller/flavour. Go to your fuse/breaker box and switch off the power.

Test how resilient your smart home is.

Before I can do that, let's put the TV on to unwind first.

Nope, TV won't turn on. Looks like the smart switch I've attached to it to monitor power has a default power on state as "off". Need to add an automation to that so it turns back on automatically

Now that I've reloaded the ZHA component in Home Assistant, all my Aqara FP1 sensors are marked as unavailable. Not just one or two, all six are now unavailable 🤷‍♂️

Unplugging the ZBT-2 and rebooting Home Assistant has had zero effect. Looks like I'm re-pairing all of them :(

The sun is out and my blinds aren't down like I would expect

Looking closer I can't control them via Zigbee. A reload of the Zigbee integeration (ZHA) gets me able to control *some* of the blinds again, but not all.

Looks like I'll need to re-pair some blinds to Zigbee

Once I get home, things are still off.

The house is warm, the aircon/HVAC hasn't turned on before I get home. Looks like the wifi controller has not re-connectred to the Wifi, so I need to reboot that controller manually :(

After getting access to Home Assistant, I was able to see that all my z-wave devices were offline or unavailable. The ZwaveJS container needs a restart:always in the docker-compose file, which is an easy fix for next time 🤞

At the end of all this should be much easier to understand and clear automations, which will reduce more of the "that's too complicated for me" stigma around home assistant and the smart home in general
