I would bet money that 9/11 was an excuse for this. I was taking an earth science course and immediately noticed an immediate suppression of climate change stories in the media. "A Short History of Progress" was #1 on the NYT best seller list on 9/11, there WAS momentum... stopped in it's tracks.
