It's not just engineering. The hiring process in this country is now completely broken. The companies doing the hiring are only part of the problem. The Internet is a big part.

This isn't unique. Other corporations are going after fair-use posters. One music commentator (Rick Beato) on YouTube has had to hire a full-time attorney because Universal Music Group issues takedown notices for nearly everything he posts, even though it's all fair-use.

Did you ever notice how every fitness device, routine, service (gyms, etc.). and application go away or are replaced by something "better" in a relatively short time? It's almost as if they are fads.

Companies used to consider "customer acquisition cost," and would do there best to retain existing customers. This helped maintain long-term profitability. Corporate management and Wall Street now only consider the next quarter's profits. The long-term is someone else's problem.

My first wife used to buy cheap romance novels, and she kept a list of those she read so she wouldn't buy them again. Unfortunately, the publishers released many of them with new titles and covers!

As management gets further and further away from the actual functioning of the organization more stuff like this, based on stupid criteria, will happen. Small teams are essential for certain functions, and they need management that understands what they do.

BTW, we used to spar a bit on the networking forums on CompuServe back in the nineties.
