If the Democrat is good, I’ll 100% vote for them. But I’m not interested in voting for what would have been a Republican platform 20 years ago.

The fear is that the outcome will be a worse choice later. To vote strategically, you need faith that the less-bad option winning will lead to a better choice later on. But when it consistently leads to worse and worse options (regardless of who wins), then enabling it seems like the worst outcome.
