The em dash, a flexible punctuation mark, replaces commas, parentheses, or colons to emphasize, introduce lists, or indicate a sudden thought shift. It sets off non-essential but important information with greater impact than commas or parentheses. I prefer the em dash over commas and like its appearance. We need better authenticators for AI because AI uses the full keyboard & put punctuation like the em dash, which isn’t used by everyone. Therefore, using the em dash doesn’t automatically mean someone is using AI.
