Highbush Cranberry from my walk. I'm grateful folks are standing up. Here in Canada it makes a difference to us. Thank you. So many of us are worried about our US families. Be safe.

If I hadn't purchased Elizabeth's book, I wouldn't have noticed she wore the same beautiful blouse to the reading that she wears in her author photo! Clever!

Of course I then had to explain about PLR, #PublicLendingRight. Taking our books out from libraries benefits authors, including financially! Took home amazing books by Elizabeth Greene and Daniel Maluka, both of whom read amazing poetry for the last day of Poetry Month.

Thank you Henry Martinuk for photos of the TPL High Park May Event. Organizer Bernadette Gabay Dyer had a table of all our books available in the library. I was surprised and honoured to see a few of mine! Several folks withdrew library books rather than purchasing. Lindsay Zier Vogel reads, below.

Sometimes I just leaf through the pages to absorb all the wonderfulness of SK Dyment's illustrations all over again. In good news Inanna Publications is back, partnering with Radiant Press. Much to celebrate! #booksky #flashfiction #shortstories #scratchboard

The Arabic I heard in the audience took me back to Tunis, the paintings my mom did there. In #OmarElAkkad's first novel American War the united Middle East is called Bouazizi, after the man who ignited the Arab spring in Tunis.

I have tix to Omar El Akkad tomorrow that I can't use. If you are interested let me know. I can edit the contact info on Eventbrite and have them sent to you. PM me if interested!

Virtual driveway book sale!

There are stories in this antho I still think about, unbidden: Cat McLeod's Hide and Seek won the Sunburst for short fiction.

I've got a few copies of Playground in a box and am happy to sell at cost and sign one for you. A book in the mail is one of the nicest things.

Pisaster ochraceus at Port Moody, outside Vancouver, September 2023. There were countless clusters along the water. Sea stars are an environmental success story. They have recovered at least in British Columbia from the Pisaster disaster, the die-off from wasting disease of 2014-15.

Virgin's Bower or Old Man's Beard?

Is it naturalized from a nearby garden, or is it indigenous here? A volunteer, I found it beside the Ouse River in the rewilded part of my yard. My vote goes to Clematis virginiana and not Clematis vitalba, but some of you may know it better.
