South Africa has received recent international attention due to persistent economic challenges, though optimism has increased domestically. In our spring 2025 survey, 35% of South Africans said the economic situation in the country was good, up from 27% in 2024 and 22% in 2023.

What are some common topics in online parenting communities?

On Reddit, 44% of all posts in r/Parenting mentioned one or more of these issues:
- division of child care responsibilities between parents
- kids' technology use
- financial challenges of raising a child

While many parents who visit these communities say these spaces make them feel more informed (63%) or connected to other parents (48%), these experiences are not universally positive. 38% say parenting communities make them feel overwhelmed by all the information they need to know.

Public opinion of the ANC rebounded in early 2025 following the 2024 general election. This marks a turnaround from recent years, when support for the ANC steadily declined.

Nearly two-thirds of South Africans (63%) expressed a favorable opinion of the ANC in early spring 2025. By comparison, around half or fewer of adults said the same about the Democratic Alliance (48%), the Economic Freedom Fighters (45%) or the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (43%).

If the U.S. had 100 people, there would be about as many Protestants living in the South (20) as in all other parts of the country combined.

Among the 100 people, 25 would be White and Protestant, and 19 would be White and religiously unaffiliated. Seven would be Black and Protestant, including some Black Protestants who identify with evangelical or mainline denominations. Another seven would be Hispanic Catholics.

🇨🇳 Republicans and Democrats alike are skeptical of China’s ability to regulate AI. Fewer than one-in-five in each group say they trust China to effectively regulate the use of AI. Still, distrust is higher among Republicans than Democrats.

🔵 54% of Democrats trust, 30% distrust
🔴 33% of Republicans trust, 52% distrust

Parents ages 75 and older are more likely than those ages 65 to 74 to say they have discussed their end-of-life preferences with their adult children.

➡️ There are also differences by gender, with mothers more likely than fathers to say they have had these conversations.
