Should Ecology be more proactive & vocal on one of the key issues of our times? What systemic & institutional changes are needed for the ecological community to be at the forefront of the response? If these are questions that speak to you, this new paper may be of interest lnkd.in/eXfXG4xM

It’s today, same place (London Southbank), same time (1-4PM) as it has been for the last 15 years - hope to see some of you there!

Can’t do this one? There’s many more planned for this year - have a look at soapboxscience.org

End of the debate on the CAN bill - which has been adjourned to the 11th of July (although that mostly never happens, so it may just mean the Bill won’t see the light again in this parliamentary session). Lots of learning going through this process - will be useful when this comes back (it will)

Always love it when the argument is made that we don’t need the CAN bill because we have the Environment Act - the act doesn’t look at ecosystems; the act doesn’t look at international ecological footprint; the act doesn’t commit to 30% by 2030….

And this is the crux of it: promises are not Acts of Parliament. Not progressing this Bill is removing THE opportunity to lock the ambition on nature and climate in law

This is a parliamentary debate I have wanted to see for a long time - finally we are having the discussion we need to have; but debate is not enough. We need action on climate and nature, locked in law

Today is the day - and the first hurdle is passed; the debate on the CAN bill won’t happen behind closed doors.
