Brady sniffles and blows his nose into the cloth. “T-thank you, Ma,” his voice dribbling. “Ah, ah, Mother. Thank you, Mother.” Maribelle sighs but a sympathetic smile tugs at the corner of her lipsticked mouth. “It will be no more than five minutes, I promise. Please wait here while I talk to your teacher.” Brady sniffles, rubbing his reddened nose. “C-can I play Roblox on your tablet while you’re gone?” Maribelle frowns, pushing up her dark sunglasses. “No.” The boy grumbles, tucking his chin into his neck, his feet kicking into the back of the passenger seat. The gesture irritates her, but at least he took off his dirty sneakers.
