The fortified village ("ksar") of Aït Benhaddou, Morocco, situated in a landscape just southeast of the Atlas Mountains that looks quite similar to that of the American Southwest.

Early evening sunlight illuminates footprints on the left edge of a cresting sand dune with an expansive view of rolling sand dunes meeting the horizon in the distance. A rolling ridge of sand extends into the distance, meeting other sand dune ridges to create wave-like visual effects in a vast sea of sand. A perfectly smooth left slope of a sand dune ridge meets a right slope that is punctuated by wind-driven wave-lake patterns and footprints. In the distance are rolling ridges of sand dunes as far as the eye can see. Early morning sunlight casts deep shadows and contrast over a landscape of vast rolling sand dunes under clear sky. At the center of the image are two palm trees and a group of camels.
