I’d be giving up the will to live by now

So glad I’m starting my travel to Brussels later this weekend and not today. This sailing left Dublin 12 hours ago and is still waiting for the wind to drop to berth at Holyhead. Fingers crossed sailings resume tomorrow okay.

At this giving a talk on use of satellite data in @ipcc.bsky.social reports later this morning. The audio folks have me tangled in all sorts of wires. Feel a little like a trussed chicken

Good morning Dublin

Who said slow travel wasn’t full of glamour? One of the pros is very liberal baggage limits. I saw someone bring out a thermarest and sleeping bag once at Holyhead. The jealousy was real. Turns out it was also entirely justified. #snugasabuginarug

In nice things we apparently can’t have here’s tgv high speed train getting from Paris to Reims in about 40 minutes which is about the fastest I can get from maynooth to Dublin which is a full 25km. Imagine these dublin to cork, Galway, Belfast and letterkenny. Let’s not mention the crossing sun am

Starting out to meetings in London with @wwattribution.bsky.social to discuss @wasitusie.bsky.social collaboration and then next week an @ipcc.bsky.social special report related meeting. The captain expects a smooth crossing. Pump it into my veins 🤣

trending increasingly north in ECMWF model runs with worst winds staying offshore but Scotland potentially taking a hit. Lets see what the runs later today bring.

trending spicier but there is huge ensemble spread still. If I were in the north west I would be playing pretty darn close attention to forecasts over the next couple of days til this gets 'locked in'

Met Eireann warnings will presumably drop any time now. Still a way off and this is more uncertain than the usual being a post-tropical cyclone but if this ECMWF forecast verifies the norther half of the country is in for a rough old Friday afternoon and evening

I think the met Éireann duty forecaster must have had electric picnic on the brain …

It’s back - the sky is cloudless in every direction radiative cooling at the surface kicking in and the boundary layer inversion must be pretty mighty already to be setting these false radar returns off. The animation is impressive for those with the app. Can see it growing

pretty epic anaprop been going on a few hours now over central Ireland on the Met Eireann radar. At one point it had pretty biblical rain rates but spot verification was partial high clouds. I wonder what about the particular conditions has set this up. Or has DUB erected a crane in front of dome? 🙃

They’ve gone all out with the event advertising here at Dublin Castle. I’m the warm up guy for Conor Murphy who in turn is the warm up guy for Michael Martin. No pressure then …
